Who would have thought it was illegal to kiss someone in public in Dubai or cross the road in Poland? American Express does not do so nicely in Cuba and bringing meat into Mexico a criminal offence?

There is so much to learn about our fellow countries that it is no wonder they say that travel broadens the mind! Thanks to the credit crunch, we are more willing to rebel against the ritual of a beach holiday in Magaluf and are prepared to look further afield for a new holiday spot! According to the article “These smoking hot travel tips could save your bacon!” there is more to this travelling malarkey than first meets the eye! We can do worse than to pop into a bookshop and purchase a decent travel guide (there is one for many if not all holiday destinations) and to learn a word or two of the lingo. Hasn’t the time come at last to prove to the rest of the world we too are willing to learn the native language!

When an Isle of Man holidaymaker not only lost out on his holiday but any chance of compensation when a last minute change to the Visa regulations occurred, you have to ask yourself if can this happen to you? After reading the article “Read on! This could happen to you!” I have my concerns!

When the changes were made, in this case, to Visa regulations, a notice was posted onto the consular website, we are informed. Travellers were informed to consult the website up to six months before the change, according to the Swiss Embassy. Visas were issued for free between November and December and Mr Mr Middlemas, the holidaymaker in the article, should have had the opportunity to take advantage of this. The Embassy added that is up to the travel agent and the traveller who are ultimately responsible for acquiring this information.

Getting married in Blighty? Not ruddy likely!

Having experienced an exotic wedding first hand, I would highly recommend it! Compared with the more traditional domestic wedding (I have experienced several of these at close quarters but not first hand), the exotic option wins hands down! Traditional weddings are highly organised stressful affairs while exotic weddings couldn’t be further from this. Actually, it is thumbs up on all levels; you have a bride who is so stress free about the whole wedding business, she is positively horizontal; plenty of money still left in the bank (so no excessive overtime hours to wear you out); no tears; no crises and more.

Your family and friends get to enjoy a brilliant holiday as well as your wedding day and you can’t beat the refreshing feeling of walking along a sandy beach in bare feet to the rhythm of the ever-encroaching waves upon a welcoming seashore. Reason enough?

ESTA…what’s it all about?

The new ESTA (otherwise known as Electronic System for Travel Authorisation) is mandatory and should be obtained prior to flying to the United States.

According to the article “Hark! New visa rules for US travellers” if you don’t have this piece of travel documentation, you will be unable to claim reimbursement through your travel insurance.

The ESTA is what you need to get for pre-clearance for travel into the US. A Homeland Security screening utility, this documentation will determine your eligibility for entering the country. It is free of charge and within the confines of the visa waiver scheme, allows holders to visit for up to ninety days without a visa.

Remember, if you don’t have your ESTA, you will not be allowed access into the country.
